Salvation pictured in Narnia...and not so obvious...

The other day I was thinking about The Silver Chair.

After some contemplation, I began to think about Jill Pole's first meeting with Aslan. have you ever thought how this is a picture of salvation?

yes. Edmund and Eustace are more obvious, but Jill has one too! Think of it...

She's done things wrong. Life is hateful, a friend, who has already had this conversion, reaches out to her and leads her to the source of salvation. But she does not yet fully believe.

Only after she is confronted with her sin, by Aslan in Aslan's country, does she truly see that she has done wrong.

Attention:

  • Aslan offers her water for her thirst
  • listen to this part of their conversation:
"Are you not thirsty?" said the Lion. {note that lion is capitalized}
"I'm dying of thirst," said Jill.
"Then drink," said the Lion.
  • Jill is then required to take decisive action- stepping out on faith and desperation alone. She, of course, chooses to drink. Please notice how the water is described:

It was the worst thing she had to do, but she went forward to the stream, knelt down, and began scooping up water in her hand. It was the coldest, most refreshing water she had ever tasted. You didn't need to drink much of it, for it quenched your thirst at once.

  • Once she realizes she was wrong in the things that she had done, and comes to faith in the Lion, Jill is given a task, which becomes the base of the book. Jill has been forgiven, and later makes right with Eustace, the one she had wronged.
  • I love this line near the end of the book.
"I have come," said a deep voice behind them. They turned and saw the Lion Himself, so bright and real and strong that everything else began at one to look pale and shadowy compared with him. And...Jill...remembered only how she had made Eustace fall over the cliff, and how she had helped to muff nearly all the signs, and about all the snappings and quarrelings. And she wanted to say "I'm sorry" but she could not speak. Then the Lion drew them toward him with his eyes, and bent down and touched their pale faces with his tongue, and said: "Think of that no more. I will not always be scolding."
Again, we see the beautiful description of Aslan as our great Saviour, Jesus Christ!

Who's Who in Narnia?

Many people, believe that we Christians make too much "Jesus and Bible stuff" out of Narnia. Liam Neeson (the voice of the mighty Aslan) was asked by a reporter if he though that Aslan was a good representation of God. He replied with something to this extent (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A DIRECT QUOTE!), "If there is a God, I sure would like Him to be like Aslan."

The word "Gospel" means good news...and boy do I have some! I just wish I could go to Mr. Neeson and say "But He IS like Aslan!"
And He really is!
God is Kind, King, Master, Maker, Keeper, Creator, Merciful, Mighty, Lord, Loving, Wise, Whispering, Rescuing, Restoring, Peaceful, Precious!

To see what he really is... watch this video!

Why Does Aslan Represent God?

"All get what they want. They do not always like it."
-The Magician's Nephew

"You see, they will not let us help them. They have chosen cunning instead of belief. Their prison is only in their own minds, yet they are in that prison; and so afraid of being taken in that they cannot be taken out."
-The Last Battle
God is the Omniscient One- All Knowing One and is therefore wise.

Aslan is loving, gentle, and merciful.

Even after Uncle Andrew in The Magician's Nephew had messed up so much in Narnia and in his own world by messing with magic, Aslan still gave him the only thing he was still able to receive-sleep.

God is our El- Shaddai- the ever all knowing nourishing One.

Aslan is powerful and mighty.

A lion is king of the jungle. They dominate  the food chain. Their muscles alone are amazing.

God is Omnipotent (all powerful), and his name El means Strong one.And Abir meaning "to be strong."

Aslan is the Created the world of Narnia. And sang it to life.

God created the whole world and filled it with his song of  love and breath of life.

Aslan gave his life for a traitor to fulfill prophecy, and gave his all for one he loved- Edmund.

God gave his lift for traitors to fullfill prophecy, and gave his all for the ones he loved-YOU and ME.

Aslan rose again to conquer the evil witch!
God rose again to conquer death-His and ours!!!!

 Hallelujah! HE IS RISEN!!!!

Here are a few more edited pictures. Feel free to use any of them as long as when used publicly, you: 1) notify me, and 2) link the pictures back to this blog. Thank you!

This picture is to capture and remeber C.S.Lewis's rarely remembered subtitle of Prince Caspian:
Here are some separates of the Pevensies:
Peter
Susan

Edmund

And Lucy
And here are the four ancient sovereigns:

And lastly, a picture that took me many tries to get so that the banner isn't in either Peter or Edmund's faces:

I see here that poor Edmund's face has been cut off by my small writing space. But, if you click on the picture, it will open into it's own window and you can see the whole thing... no offence, Ed.;)
